Rock the record store
Two Bay City stores, the Electric Kitsch and Brewtopia, are participating in Record Store Day on Saturday, April 19. Record Store Day is an international event created to “celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1000 independently owned record stores in the US,” according to www.recordstoreday.com.
Electric Kitsch, located at 917 Washington Ave. in Bay City, is a resale shop that features vintage knick-knacks, new and used records, as well as musical instrument repair. This will be the second time the store has participated in Record Store Day. This year, the Electric Kitsch will open at 10 a.m. and will have snacks, craft beer, prizes and Record Store Day releases available for purchase. Live music is free and begins at 4 p.m. with the one-man band Morseville Bridge from Flint, MI and ends with country singer and songwriter Rachel Brooke from Lovells, MI.
Brewtopia, located at 810 Saginaw St. in Bay City, is a coffee shop that features cappuccinos, lattes, macchiatos and other beverages. Brewtopia will host a second set of performances on Record Store Day beginning at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $3 at the door and all ages are welcome. Live music will be performed by Withdraw, a melodic hardcore band from Bay City. This will be their first show. The next performance is the Seagulls, a rock band from Bay City. Third in the lineup is Dalinian, a rock band from Saginaw. The headliner of the night is Oceans Over Airplanes, an indie/emo/post-rock band from Crown Point, IN.
